Last Chance Christmas is the 1st book in the Road to Romance Series by Joanne Rock.
Book Details
Last Chance Christmas is the 1st book in a 3-book series. This book was published in November 2015.
The main genre is contemporary Christmas romance but there are a couple more to add to this!!
This is also a sports romance, specifically a hockey romance. I’d also call it a forced proximity romance and a second chance romance.
This story has only 117 pages making it a novella. There’s no violence or terrible language but there is sexy scene, with a few details.
This is Shea Walker’s and JC Royce’s story. This story is told from their point of view in 3rd person.
This story is located in small town called Cloud Spin. Fun name!!
This series is wrapped around three friends: Shea, Larissa, and Rachel. But the other characters don’t play any role in the other stories.
I found another book cover on Goodreads for this story!! Although, it’s the same, just a bit different.
Book Summary
This is Shea’s and JC’s story.
This is a novella, so the story happens quickly!!
I’d call this a contemporary romance as it’s a modern story with similar problems we all have to deal with.
But it’s also a sports romance, more specifically a hockey romance as both main characters are hockey players and live a life around hockey.
Shea is the daughter of the hockey coach that everyone loves. She, herself, was a hockey star too, but chose to walk away from the game after an huge arguement with her father.
Okay, so she also felt as if JC walked away from her. This makes it a second chance romance as well.
Now, ten years later, she’s back to mend fences with her parents. But when she surprises her parents for Christmas, she finds them gone.
In a pickle, she has no idea what she’s gonna do, until JC shows up.
I’d call this a forced proximity romance as Shea is forced to stay with JC at his house as she can’t get into her parents place.
She decided to show up at her parents place as she was in a terrible car accident and is in need of a place to rest and recuperate. And what better place to do that then at her parents place.
But instead, she stays with JC.
This story is also a redemption story. Shea has come back to mend fences with her parents and put her past behind her so she can move forward in life.
As she stays with JC, they get to know each other as adults and find that they actually might be perfect for each other.
Conclusion
But it’s also a story that brings awareness to that concussion disease that happens to players who knock their head around too much. A serious issue for many families attached to contact sports. I liked how she addressed these issues.
I liked this story. It was a short, easy read. Definitely worth reading!!
