Book Summary

This book picks up exactly where the 2nd book left off.  With the sad news that Betsy Jakes has been brutally gunned down just after Paul’s funeral.

Trey called his brother, Sam Jakes, to tell him about their mom is dead.

Book 3 is about Sam and Lainey Pickett.

So the story about Sam and Lainey is sad and tender.

Sam enlisted instead of going to college.  He came home injured inside and out.  With severe PTSD, he sequestered himself from everyone he loved.

He left Lainey behind with no explaination.

Trey calls Sam home, not only because their mother has been killed but also because Trey needs his help.  Sam is a private investigator.  Trey and Sam work together to find clues as to who is killing the 3 others that witnessed something.

While this is happening, Sam takes the risk and goes to Lainey to see how she is doing and to see if she will forgive him for abandoning her.

What he finds is Lainey is just as broken as he is.  She has fought cancer, had a full mastectomy, went thru radiation treatments and still came out a survivor instead of a victim.

There’s a few tender scenes where he swallows some humble pie and begs for her forgiveness.

So this book is about them reconcilling.

But it’s also about Trey and Sam finding clues to who is killing their parents.  Betsy left behind some journals that she wrote down her nightmares down.  Lainey’s mom also left behind some clues in her journals.

What they don’t realize is that the killer is walking among them.  The killer is not someone you would expect.  I won’t spoil it for you, but it is so sad the reasons that these people were killed.

I did enjoy this series.  Yes, you need to read book 1 and book 2 and then this one in order to really understand this series.
