Summer in Good Hope

Summer in Good Hope is the 2nd book in the Good Hope Series by Cindy Kirk.

Book Details

Summer in Good Hope is the second book in a 21-book series. This book was first published in 2016.

The main genre for this story is contemporary romance, but I would also add in a small town romance.

I would also add in a second chance romance as Prim and Max get a second chance at love. I would also call this a friends to lovers romance as they’ve been friends since they were kids but didn’t act on it until now.

I would also add it’s a story about life, and dealing with the troubles and struggles of life!

This is full length story with 286 pages.

There are no other book covers for this story.

There was one sex scene with a few details, not crude words, with a couple others with not details, just mentioned.

There are no crude language or violence in this story.

This charming contemporary romance is set in the small community of Good Hope, Wisconsin.

While this series is wrapped around the community of people that live and work in Good Hope, the first 4 books are about the Bloom sisters.

This is Primrose “Prim” and Max’s story. This story is told from their point of view in 3rd person.

Book Summary

Just like the rest of this series, Book 2, Summer in Good Hope, is a tender feel-good contemporary romance.

Primrose, or Prim, is a widowed mom of 2 lively 6yr old twin boys. She’s moved back home to Good Hope because she was let go in her job but mostly because she wants to be near her family again. Not only is she still adjusting to being a single mom, she’s also learning a new normal after the death of her husband.

Her husband Rory, who was diagnosed with CF, was a fearless and thrill-seeking adventurous. He died in a freak climbing accident leaving her to raise her sons herself.

Moving back to Good Hope means being around friends and family again. It also means she’s able to have the support of her own family. She’s looking for a level of peace as she’s dealing the loss of her husband and her job. Oh, and to get away from her over-bearing in-laws!

Moving home also brings her in close proximity to Max Brody. Her, Max and Rory were buds in high school and did things together. Max never acted on his feelings as Prim and Rory were together.

I’d call this a second chance romance because Prim and Max get a chance at love. He loved her in high school but didn’t act on it in deference to his friend. But the one kiss they shared, he’s never been able to forget. Now, with her being back in Good Hope, it allows them to get to know each other as adults and in a different state of life.

I’d call this a friends to lovers romance as Max is always there for Prim as she adjusts to life back in Good Hope. He becomes the person she calls when there’s a burglar or for someone to help with the boys.

I’d call it a forced proximity romance as Prim moves into a house right next door to Max!! Of all the streets that she could’ve moved into, she’s moves right next to the one person she could never forget. With them so close, it makes them be in each other’s orbit to get to know each other again.

They are also paired up as the accountants on the Cherries committee. This means they spend a ton of time together, hence the forced proximity!

Conclusion

Grieving the loss of loved one is hard. Grieving the loss of a loved husband is even harder. Grieving the loss of a loved husband that you were having troubles with just before they died is monumental. Especially when that grief is wrapped in guilt and shame, this becomes a whole other animal.

Cindy Kirk has taken this series topic and written a tender love story about coming to terms with that loss and finding love again while not forgetting your first love, especially for the kids’ sake.

So while this was an easy read, it was also an enjoyable read! Definitely worth checking out!
