Book Summary
Wanted: Undead or Alive is the 12th book in the Love at Stake Series by Kerrelyn Sparks.
This is where Phineas McKinney, the infamous Love Doctor finally gets his story.
If you remember, he was attacked by the Malcontents and changed against his will all the way back in book 3, Be Still My Vampire Heart!
And at first, he called himself the Love Doctor but when you read this book, you find he’s tired of the dating game and wants to find someone to love him for who he really is.
The background plot is also moving along and at the end of book 10, Vampire Mine, Casimir was killed and his vampire lover, Corky, took off with the video that she posted.
As they’ve been looking for Corky, they’ve had many sightings of where she’s at. And one in the forests of Wyoming seems to be the best lead.
Connor and Angus ask Phineas to find a daytime guard that will go with him to Wyoming to search all these leads to find Corky.
And that’s where he asks Brynley Jones to come with him, albeit reluctantly. He doesn’t want her to come because he’s attracted to her and he doesn’t want anyone to know.
What he didn’t anticipate is that she’d be attracted to him too.
Now Brynley is Phil’s sister and a werewolf. Phil was banished from his pack long before this series began and he has his own story in book 7, Forbidden Nights with a Vampire.
Brynley ran away from home when her Alpha pack leader father tried to marry her off to an Alpha from Alaska.
But she’s homesick and wants to go home so she agrees to be Phineas’ day guard while they hunted down Corky.
And as they spend time together, they come to realize that they have more in common than they first thought and that they also want to explore the intense attraction for each other.
As with the other books, these two characters have similar issues and must deal them somehow. And while they are hunting, they talk things out and share about their pasts. This causes several moving and touching scenes where you feel for the characters.
Now there’s a lot that’s happening while they are looking for Corky.
Corky has teamed up with a rogue werewolf who also happens to be the man that Brynley was being forced to marry. And together they plan to rule the world, or at least the packs in Wyoming and the ones in Alaska.
So this book has more going on within the background plot than some of the other books. You see how, even though Casimir was killed, the Malcontents are still trying to achieve power and dominance, whichever way they can.
And with Brynley going back to Wyoming, she also has to deal with her father. And he wants her to marry Rhett Bleddyn, the Alpha werewolf from Alaska.
Side note: This leads into book 13, Wild About You, as Rhett is a personal enemy to Howard Barr and he gets his story in book 13!!!
Brynley doesn’t want to marry and in her defiance to her father causes her to become an Alpha werewolf herself. Making her the only female Alpha in the world.
Oh, and Phineas gets bitten in the final battle between Rhett and his minion werewolves and the vampires when they have to rescue Brynley from her father!!
So in the end, things do end happy while adding much more interesting things to the storyline.
So make sure you check it out!!
