So far, in this series, I’ve noticed that these characters have an external and an internal issue to deal with.
Book Summary
This is Izzie’s and Theo’s story. This is a tender story of healing and learning to forgive.
Izzie is the resident artist in this series. She’s actually been a part of this cast of characters since the beginning of the series. As a secondary character, we didn’t really get to know her, but we did see how she’s been earning her stripes and building a life in Good Hope.
Theo is a newcomer to Good Hope. He’s been recruited to be the new doctor in town, in a fancy new clinic.
The meet cute is a fun scene with Izzie stepping into the clinic as she’s been asked to paint a murial on the outside of the clinic as part of a project to paint the outside of the businesses in the new part of town.
And that’s where we find out that Theo and Izzie knew each other before.
So this is a second chance romance because they were a coupleo once. But they weren’t just a couple, they were almost married.
As high school sweethearts, they fell for each other hard, but a surprise pregnancy changed all their plans. But they were in love, so it seemed natural for them to marry.
But a miscarriage, that landed her in the hospital, derailed their plans and their lives. And due to some huge misunderstandings, Theo leaves her on the day they were supposed to get married.
Now years later, they meet again. Because there’s many unresolved feelings, from the miscarriage as well as how each of them dealt with it, this becomes the main plot points of this story.
And it’s also how this becomes a friends to lovers romance. Theo comes to realize the impact their choices had on each other and how he has to her friend first, and build the trust and faith he broke some many years ago.
But it’s also about Izzie realizing what her role was in the events too. So this is a story about healing, for both of them, to be able to move forward.
Conclusion
I enjoyed this story. It was sweet and tender. And realistic. The author took a very real issue that many women face and shares a tender story of love and forgiveness.
