Redwood Bend is book 18 in the Virgin River Series by Robyn Carr.
Book Summary
This story is based in Virgin River and has quite of few of the beloved characters, but this story is about Katie Malone, her twin boys and Dylan Childress.
Katie is Connor’s sister (book 17) and has come to Virgin River to be near Connor for the summer. She had been in Vermont ever since the whole things with Connor died down.
This story focuses more on Katie and Dylan instead of bringing in all the wonderful characters that we have come to love. Even though you do get to see how some are doing and what’s up with them.
So Katie decides to leave Vermont because the sweet and gentle dentist that she was getting to know ended up being gay!!! Talk about leaving a sour taste in your mouth.
She packs up her boys and heads to Virgin River in her big SUV.
And on the way she has a flat!!
This is where Dylan comes into play. He’s riding into town with his group of bikers and sees her with her flat. Him and his buddies help change that tire and get her on her way.
After that they meet by chance a couple of time and it’s instant attraction between them. But like any romance, some of their issues get in the way.
Katie is a widow, losing Charlie when she was pregnant with the twins. She desperately wants to have that spark again what ever relationship she finds. But because of the dentist, she’s a bit gun shy.
Dylan is a child star that was uprooted as a teenager and ended up being raised in Montana far away from the Hollywood life. But he still has family and relationship issues that keep come up. And he doesn’t think he can get away from them.
So the majority of the story is them working through their separate issues and coming to a decision for what they really and truly want from life. Dylan has some major hangups being a child star. But it ends happily ever after!!
It’s a sweet and tender romance.
And yes, there’s sex scenes to deal with. It does seem that her books are getting a bit more detailed than in the beginning of the series. It’s still tastefully done and RC doesn’t use crude language so it’s endearing and romantic.
And you do meet some other characters so than the next book is tied with this one. Tom Cavanaugh comes back to town after being deployed. He’s come back to run the apple orchard (book 19).
You get to know Connor and Leslie a bit better as he’s Katie’s brother and the whole situation with Katie brings out his older brother tendancies where Dylan is concerned. It’s fun to watch!!
All in all, it’s a good story. I enjoyed it both as it relates to all the other books in the series but also as it can stand on its own.
