This is Bea Appleton’s and Clay Chapin’s story. This story is told from their point of view in 3rd person.
This story is located in Good Hope, a small township in the Door County peninsula in Wisconsin.
So far, in this series, I’ve noticed that these characters have an external and an internal issue to deal with.
A few things happen during this story that ties it to the other stories in this series:
- Bea becomes the owner of the Book & Cup when June decides to gift it to her.
- Piper Ambrose, owner of Swoon, has a shop adjacent from the bookstore.
- Bea, Piper, and Marigold are good friends.
- This story happens in the springtime.
- JR Driskill, a friend of Krew Slattery, makes an appearance.
- Bea’s twin sister Brittany Appleton joins this story. Not sure she’ll get her own story as she doesn’t want to stay in Good Hope.
- Greer and Wyatt get married at the end of the story.
Book Summary
This is Bea’s and Clay’s story. It’s a charming romance told in a fun twist!!
Beatrice Appleton is a character we didn’t really know, but you can tell that there are other characters that are being added to this series. And the author can do that because, like life, we all have people that come into our lives that don’t play a major role, but they could, if given the chance.
That’s this character. Bea is runs the Book & Cup, a small bookstore in Good Hope. She’s also a character that grew up with the other main characters in this series. Like the Bloom sisters. In fact, she seems to be good friends with Marigold Bloom Rakes as, Marigold plays a role in this story.
Clay is a character we’ve been getting to know for several books. As one of the Chapin family, he plays a role in the community. He’s also the high school principle so he knows a ton of the kids!
So far, Clay has played the role of a player, not in the bad sense. But still not being able to find the right woman that fulfills him and wants to be with. You see that in the many women he’s dated so far.
And that’s the basis for this story. Clay has been dating the wrong women, ones that’re emotionally unavailable. He’s tired of it and wants to find THE ONE!! And who’s willing the help him, but the infamous Gladys Bertholf. She’s openly helping matchmake those around her who she deems in need of her services. Fun huh!!!
She takes it upon herself to make sure that he finds the right woman for him. And she does it in a “bachelor games” type of way. And this is where the name of the book comes from!! A hugely fun idea!
What follows then is a comedic story where Clay is set up on way too many dates with way too many women. In the beginning, he asked Bea to be his confidante for after each date, so he can evaluate each and decide.
As they spend time together, their feelings deepen. And there’s an evening where they decide to be together. Yes, this sex scene does have a details, but not so many it’s crudely done. It’s tasteful and meaningful and fits with the storyline.
But, as they both have issues, their personal issues come to light and they get discouraged and frustrated and then choose to not find out what the other feels.
In the end, yes, they choose to confide in each other to find out how they each feel and realize that when they’re open and, yes, vulnerable, they just might get want they want!! And what they want is to be together.
So while, Gladys’ Bachelor Games didn’t set Clay up with the “right” woman, he did find the right one!! And of course, she takes credit!
Conclusion
I love the character Gladys. I want to be her at that age!!
It’s a cute story. It’s a fun way to tell a story. I’m a fan of the Bachelor and it’s a way to be able to meet people. This spin is an excellent way to write a story.
It’s an enjoyable read, one definitely worth reading. 📚 👌
